Orion Primary School
Orion Primary School is situated within the tranquil Northern suburb of Wanneroo. The natural environment features throughout the school grounds, with lush gardens and Australian Native flora prevalent within the grounds. The Yellagonga National Park is within walking distance, as is the wetlands for nature exploration.
Built in 1994, the state of the art buildings have been carefully designed to blend in with the natural environment, as well as accommodate an ecological sustainable presence. The school caters for children from kindergarten through to year seven with many specialist programs on offer. The extensive music programs and LOTE caters for students from years 3 and upwards, as well as a PEAC program from years 4 and upwards with teaching staff specialised in these areas. The newly completed and modern computer lab is run by qualified IT teaching staff and enables all year groups to participate and learn.
This year the school has, with partnerships between staff, children, families and the wider community, undertaken a new environmentally sustainable initiative. This will ultimately lead to the school being recognised as a Green ambassador.
This initiative will involve learning and implementing practices that support energy and natural resource conservation. This involves renewing building designs, implementing water and energy saving practices, creating a sustainable living program in the form of a community garden initiative as well as learning and implementing waste management programs. The development of an innovation committee will encourage all staff, families and wider community to participate, develop and take charge in conserving our environment. We believe that the environment is for everyone and it is everyone's job to help preserve, keep clean and conserve for future generations.
